I’ve just finished binge watching Virgin River on Netflix. It’s got romance and beautiful scenery so I was hooked 😉
I love Mel Monroe! She is tougher than she thinks, kind, smart, funny and sometimes even joyous. The character moves from LA to the hamlet (read: super small town) of Virgin River. When she arrives she meets Jack Sheridan the very handsome restaurant owner (natch).
“Well, I didn’t know city girls could shoot whiskey” Jack flirts when he meets Mel. She is looking the city girl part wearing a gorgeous coat, a Cartier tank watch and she is carrying a Celine bag. But that is where the fashion romance ends my friends. It’s mostly down hill from there. Now, granted she has moved to the middle of nowhere and she is clearly a “classic” when it comes to fashion but, wouldn’t it be great if they had given her a wardrobe that had just a little sass? Classy, classic sass of course.
When I was a girl, I loved paper dolls, dressing my Barbies, and playing dress -up and if I’d have known that dressing people was an actual job, I would have packed my Holly Hobby bag and headed straight to Hollywood! So please indulge my grown up version of dress-up and read on for a round up of items from her classic look and “What I would dress her in” two casual looks (one higher priced and one lower) and two work/hot date with Jack looks (again, both high and low).
Above, clockwise from top.
- Theory wool and cashmere coat
- Cartier tank watch
- Fuzzy Sweater; Horizontal ribbed mock-neck (similar to the one Mel wore but grey)
- Celine bag (shown) She actually carries a Trapeze bag, no longer available
- Bootie (similar)
- Black jeans
- Vintage Cartier tank watch
If I were dressing the character of Mel, I would snazz up the classic “Canadian Tuxedo”, for a casual look. Below one look is high end and the other low. Can you tell the difference?
