These beautiful DIY ornaments are so easy and inexpensive! Made from dollar store clay, some paint and ribbon I think they are a beautiful addition to a tree, would make a great hostess gift or decoration on a wrapped gift.
You will need:
- modelling clay
- items to press into the clay (pressed glass, lace, leaves and branches)
- parchment paper
- rolling pin
- cookie cutters
- drinking straw (to make a hole for the ribbon)
- paint (I used white, green and gold for the back and sides)
- foam and bristle paint brushes
- gold ribbon
Gather your items and roll clay between sheets of parchment to a thickness of just under 1/4 inch. Press a variety of materials into the clay and decide which you like best.
Note: Wash pinecones if using! LOL
I liked the pine and cedar branch imprints cut into circles. Holly did not work well. I also liked pattern cut out in the snowflake shape. I think it would look really nice embossed with lace as well.
Place your item, layer with parchment and press in by rolling with the rolling pin, then remove.
Continue pressing and cutting… Press a straw into each to create a hole for your ribbon.
Allow to dry overnight.
Use a bristle paint brush to get green paint into grooves. Allow to dry. Smooth white paint over surface using the foam paint brush, avoid impressions. Allow to dry. Paint the back and sides with gold paint. When dry, tie with a thin gold ribbon.
