Dream a Little Dream With Me

Spread the love

This 3rd lockdown has been tough to take. It’s hard on everyone and I know I am luckier than many. But it’s all relative and I am struggling. The things I usually do to cheer myself up are either not allowed or I’ve already done them 1000 times to try to stay positive in the last year and a bit. I was looking at clothes online but I really don’t need anything and where would I wear it anyway? And then I remembered…

When my eldest sister and I were young, we loved when the Sears catalogue would arrive! (Hey! we were small-town girls, no judging!) We would look through and pick out everything we would buy if money were no object. Sometimes we would “order” the same outfit or shoes in multiple colours. Why not right? While we participated in this fantasy we had unlimited funds and unlimited closet space.

Here we are showing some very fashion forward looks

Well, I decided to play a grown-up version of this game. I looked up the next Lotto jackpot and it’s six million dollars. That should go a fair way n’est pas? The first half of my imaginary winnings will go to my family and charity. So now we have a comfy 3 mill to work with.

First thing I looked for after months of cold weather and lockdown? A home in Mexico of course! We are also pretending I can go there, this is my fantasy world so no harshing my mellow 😉 I found this little nugget of heaven in Huatulco Mexico. https://www.century21global.com/property/la-bocana-huatulco-oaxaca-70988-mexico-C21111156488-USD

In the words of Pepe Le Pew, “Le sigh, le purr.” Listed at $1,395,000 USD it’s a little over budget, I have to leave some money for airfare, taxes and a fabulous new wardrobe to wear while walking on the beach!

So I found this more affordable option, also in Huatulco. https://www.century21global.com/property/calle-sin-nombre—residencial-arrocito-manzana-4–lote-2–el-arrocito-huatulco-oaxaca-70988-mexico-C21124957666-USD

Not bad at all for a “budget version” is it? All this can be yours for only $419,000 USD. Es bueno! Who’s with me? Or, if you beat me to it, could I please, please be a house guest?

Since we are travelling, why not a trip to Italy? I’ve always wanted to go there and in this fantasy world, nothing is stopping me. First, we see all the sights, eat all the food and then a week in Tuscany to recuperate!

My husband and I will still spend summers at home when we aren’t jet-setting around. If we would like the kids to spend time with us, we will almost certainly need a boat.

But, alas, I get sea sick so this is more my reality. (Still gorgeous!)

And this is what the kids would like:

So let’s set aside 30 G’s or so for that!

And moving right along…

Luxurious Comfort Wardrobe

What would an imaginary loto win be without a shopping spree? I spent a little imaginary time and money at Holt Renfrew and J. Crew. I looked at Tiffany earrings but even though I am wealthy with fantasy money now, apparently I’m still a bit too frugal for Tiffany diamonds. Picked up a “deal” on diamond studs at Michael Hill. This capsule “luxurious comfort” wardrobe is heavy on the cashmere. But as the Woolworth’s heiress said “You can never be too rich or have too much cashmere” or was it “too rich or too thin?” Anyway, you can be too thin, but can you really ever have too much cashmere? Dropped a cool $6,370 on the above.

Holt Renfrew: cashmere hoodies (on right), cotton/linen cropped pants. striped shirt, boatneck top. shell bag, jeans

J. Crew swimsuit, cashmere leisure suit (blue) camel cashmere hoodie, pant and shell, floral top, shorts, hat, sandals, espadrilles.

I wanted to pick up a few things little for the family (besides the boat). My husband has always admired vintage jaguars, so this is for him. Did a little shopping here too, $100,000 – 150,000 ought to cover it.

I asked the kids what they would like with my imaginary win. One said invest their portion so they wouldn’t have to work. (Now that’s forward-thinking) The other, who was sick with a flu bug (Covid negative, thank God) just said “Drugs”

Hope you enjoyed this trip down fantasy lane with me. What’s on your fantasy list? If you enjoyed this post, you might also like Random Thoughts on Good Friday or Remembering Travels With a Toddler

Love that throwback pic! This reminds me of designing our dream mansions when we were kids – trampoline room and all!

Yeah, the “drugs” answer made me laugh! And yes to more travel! I still haven’t been on any imaginary trips to Greece, France, Belize …
