We all have those people on our lists, you know, the person who has everything. They are the hardest to buy traditional gifts for because they don’t need anything and they usually don’t want anymore “stuff.” So my go-to for gifts for the person who has everything, is to give what, in our house, we call “consumables”
Consumables don’t only include wine, chocolates or dinner out; though those are great ideas too. They are also gifts of travel, experiences, knowledge or anything we consume (for gifts I like to upgrade to a more luxurious version).
I know some of those ideas sound expensive and some seem “boring to give” but stick with me, I’ve got ideas for you!
Gift of Travel
- Travel doesn’t have to be expensive. It could be a day trip to a town with cute shops (Collingwood and Thornbury, I’m looking at you); a tour of the best antique stores or head to some great hiking trails. Just get out there and see something new!
- For more inspiration, go to Trip Advisor and click things to do, add a nearby county and see all there is to do near you
- You can also find really great flights if you don’t have specific dates or destinations in mind. Right now Flair is offering non-stop flights to Vancouver for $67 or $139 return. Add a three night stay at the Victoria Hotel for $605. Fly to Miami for $97 there and $126 home.
Gift of Experiences
- Museum Membership
- Winery/Brewery/Cidery Tours (package the gift certificate with a bottle if you’d like)
- Theatre Tickets- local or “Big City” it’s up to you
- Lift Tickets/Tubing
- Green fees for the golfer
- Sports Event Tickets
- Concert Tickets – again lot’s of local venues to choose from and lots of big names in larger cities
- Movie Tickets
- Spa Visit/Massage
- Scandinave Spa Visit
- Dinner Gift Certificates – make the reservation so it isn’t forgotten. If the dates don’t work, just change them. Or, make plans to make them your specialty!
- Painting Class (Suzan Seitz is a great local artist who does classes)
Knowledge
Is there someone on your list that wants to learn something new? Into design, creating, fitness, computers or…really anything? You wouldn’t believe the courses you can access from home!
- Udemy.com has amazing sales. Wait for them. For $15-20 you can learn about topics such as IT, business, fitness, design, personal development, photography, music and more
- Skillshare.com Learn creative skills like film making, drawing, crafting as well as marketing, productivity and social media all from experts working in the field. Kind of a baby version of…
- Masterclass.com is currently offering 2 for 1, so if you’d love to learn from a famous expert like Petra Collins, John Legend or Gordon Ramsay and you have a friend who has everything… now’s the time to jump on the sale.
Consumables
They say it’s the thought that counts, so here is my theory about giving consumables. Make it thoughtful. (Duh) Package it beautifully, make sure the item(s) are quality and please don’t include things they already have. People who love wine already have a corkscrew. So just the wine is fine. Or if that doesn’t feel like enough add a consumable like aged cheddar or good chocolate. There are so many ways to make a gift box of consumables and if you take the time to make it beautiful, it can be a lovely gift. I will soon be posting on how to do just that but for now here are some suggestions on consumables.
- Wine/cider/beer (can be made into a gift box)
- Your best recipe and the ingredients
- Gourmet Goodies/Charcuterie board ingredients (but only if they’ll eat them!)
- Tea/Coffee and Cookies
- Bath/Skin Care items and a soy candle
- Refillable needs – get them started on a refillable journey with a gift box of refillable necessities
I hope this helps you buy for that person who has everything! Stay tuned for advise on making a gift basket you’ll be proud to give.
