How I Would Dress Maddie from Sweet Magnolias

Spread the love

Have you seen Sweet Magnolias on Netflix? As usual, I am late to the game. Also as usual, I have some thoughts on the fashion choices, hence “How I Would Dress Maddie from Sweet Magnolias.” Below I select some fashions for Maddie, but first the other characters deserve a little attention. I like most of the choices I’ve seen for Helen (played by Heather Headley) I like the heels, the bright colours, the professional look and the fit. So far Dana Sue (played by Brooke Elliott) has mostly been sporting her Chef’s jacket but I did spot her in a cute black dress with a polka dot ruffle that I liked. Also, I totally loved Maddie’s mom’s look when we first see her! Linen, flowing fabric, chunky jewelry. Nailed the southern artist mother! Fantastic.

But… if I were picking the wardrobes, I would like to see Maddie (played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher) in some more traditionally southern looks! With her sweet personality, her dedicated mother vibe and her southern upbringing, I would love to see her in more ruffles, more dresses and fewer jeans. While still keeping her style classic which fits her personality, I would like her to be just a little more stylish. Her home is adorable and she’s comfortable financially (at least she was… I don’t know what’s coming with the split) so let’s give her a little kick of fashion. I know, I know she is a mother of 3 but I think she should be just a smidge aspirational, mostly because it’s more fun to watch.

For church and date nights she could definitely rock more dresses, I’d like them loose below the waist with some ruffles or puffed sleeves. Then add some fun accessories like a chunky bracelet, thick belt or boots. Even a busy mom has time for that!

Below are some looks I came up with for dresses. Don’t you think she would look gorgeous in the emerald green, the punchy yellow and even the subdued purple?

Stay tuned for casual looks in a future post…
