I woke up early today. Like, ungodly early. Five-fifteen a.m. early. I got up for a bit, the dog followed wondering if it meant an early breakfast (it did not). I petted him for a bit, it poured rain, I thought about how strange it is to be awake in a house of sleeping people. To some of you that might not be weird, but I am a sleepy-head my friends and it doesn’t happen often. Anyway, tried to sleep but too many thoughts were running through my monkey brain so I thought I would get up and share them with you…
- Someone needs to make this place into a hotel. Please. OMG a hotel that is its own island? Ocean views from every window? Those curved doorways, that leaded glass(?), bricked, arched ceilings? AAAKKK I CAN’T TAKE IT! Okay, so she needs a little work but imagine how gorgeous she could be? White curtains billowing in the gentle sea breeze, tropical plants growing in the courtyard where elegant people sip elegant drinks, standing on a grassy rooftop watching for sailboats and sea life…Very Gatsby-esque. Someone please purchase, transform and then invite me to this former fort in Wales. Click here and watch the video for six minutes of dreamy escape.
2. In HGTV news (is there any other channel?), I saw a commercial for a new show called Making it Home with Kortney and Kenny. Kortney is Kortney Wilson formerly of Masters of Flip and of Making it Home with Dave Wilson. Which begs the question, “What happened to Dave?” I guess they announced they are separating back in December 2019. Where have I been?? Also, divorce sucks so I’m not saying I know anything about the inner workings of their life or marriage but man, Kortney NEVER let Dave be right. Based on watching the show, I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t commit to a life of marriage with her, maybe coffee though.
3. Lately, I’ve been reading books about happiness. Here is what I’ve learned…
- We are poor predictors of what will make us happy. Which goes hand in hand with…
- The things you think will make you happy will not make you happy. At least not for long
- We adapt quickly to improved situations (Hedonic adaptation) Hence why the things you thought would make you happy do not do so for long
More specifically, and not surprisingly, focus on the little joys, let go the little irritants, get rid of clutter but keep lots of plants, work on keeping your relationships healthy, celebrate the wins of others, touch and hug, help others and read books on happiness (Ha ha ha ha ha) Or just read this hilarious blog! Also, google laughing children and upside-down dogs.
In case you wanted to know, the books I read/am reading are:
- The Myths of Happiness by Sonja Lyubomirsky
- Happy By Design by Victoria Harrison
- The Happiness Project by Gretchen Ruben
- Stumbling on Happiness by Daniel Gilbert
4. Have you heard of the cutest little salamander you have ever seen, the axolotl? If not please google it immediately. Or click here for a video! I’m not even kidding.
Finally a word of encouragement… Please remember that women think they are fat when they can’t fit in their tightest jeans and men think they are fat when they can’t fit in the car.

ok that axolotl is a little cute in pink but horrifying in dark grey! The sell them at pet stores I been in. I wonder is that’s one thing contributing to their endangered status?
I love your hotel idea! If i win the lotto jackpot I will buy it and you can fix it up ok?
There is something peaceful about early mornings.

Yeah, the dark axolotl is horrifying! And thanks for buying the fort for me, in spirit anyway!
