I’ve got a confession to make… I just ordered more books. That doesn’t sound like a secret you say, nothing to be embarrassed about, nothing that might get you in trouble. Weeellll, here’s the thing, I have a stack of books waiting to be read so I’m not sure I should be ordering more!
I started reading books about happiness because doesn’t everyone want to be happy? If that’s not your goal in life shouldn’t it be? I have read some of most of my happiness books. You may have some questions. For example “Why do you have multiple books about one topic?” “Why have you read some, not all of one book before starting another?” “Are you happier?”
Well, I have multiple books on one topic because I am obsessed with learning new things but mostly because I hate to pay for shipping. Ha! Some of these books are “thinking” books, and I need to process, sometimes I forget which ones I have started!! (blaming that on fibro fog) and I may be a little ADD. Am I happier? Well, let’s just say I am learning techniques to be happier… I will have to share my new knowledge one of these days (if you are interested) and if I ever finish. I am highlighting as I go because, fibro fog, and I DO want to remember what I learn.
I also have 2 novels in the pile of To Be Read. One I am saving because it is a Reese Witherspoon pick and I can’t wait to have a few days to dive in. (Note about me, when I start reading a good book, I become obsessive and CANNOT PUT IT DOWN!!) and a second book that I think will be a good read but I just haven’t gotten to it.
So, with a TBR pile so small (if you ignore the happiness books) how could I resist a “buy two get one free” sale? No really, how? Save me some $$$! Kidding, there is NO STOPPING ME MWAHAHA!

Anyhoo… here is what I have recently finished
I really liked this! It is by the author of A Million Little Pieces (which I have not read) and is different from most of the novels I read. His writing style is a bit different too. Lots of short sentences. He really paints a picture though. I loved the characters, thought about them when I wasn’t reading. Semi-autobiographical, the main character, James, is a recovering addict and man, was I rooting for him! Just a good guy you really want to see do well. And Leonard, I love Leonard. He is a character and the friendship between James and Leonard feels so real (it’s semi-autobiographical, so maybe it actually IS real!)
Warning: there were tears. I generally will avoid books that make me cry at all costs but I was okay with these tears. It was not the sort of deep sadness about the state of the world or the sadness that comes from reading about the desperate and despair-soaked lives some people unfortunately suffer.
A fun read! I enjoyed it enough that I’ve just ordered another book by this author called Where’d You Go Bernadette? Here’s what the publisher had to say
“Eleanor knows she’s a mess. But today, she will tackle the little things. She will shower and get dressed. She will have her poetry and yoga lessons after dropping off her son, Timby. She won’t swear. She will initiate sex with her husband, Joe. But before she can put her modest plan into action – life happens. Today, it turns out, is the day Timby has decided to fake sick to weasel his way into his mother’s company. It’s also the day Joe has chosen to tell his office – but not Eleanor – that he’s on vacation. Just when it seems like things can’t go more awry, an encounter with a former colleague produces a graphic memoir whose dramatic tale threatens to reveal a buried family secret.
TODAY WILL BE DIFFERENT is a hilarious, heart-filled story about reinvention, sisterhood, and how sometimes it takes facing up to our former selves to truly begin living.”
An imperfect Mom is a win in my books!
And finally:
Such a good one! A mystery that reveals itself slowly and keeps you wondering! Similar to Girl on a Train or The Woman in Cabin 10, there is mystery but not gore. No waiting for a murderer to come jumping out, which is much more my taste. Add in family relationships and I was hooked. This was also a Reese Witherspoon Book Club pick, so you just know you can’t go wrong!
Hope you have some good books to read this summer! If not, ask me for a recommendation. And if there’s something you think I just HAVE to read, let me know!
