“Oh, I am grateful,” protested Anne. “But I’d be ever so much gratefuller if–if you’d made just one of them with puffed sleeves. Puffed sleeves are so fashionable now. It would give me such a thrill, Marilla, just to wear a dress with puffed sleeves.” -Anne of Green Gables

Remember when Marilla presented Anne with her 3 new dresses, plain and simple dresses, no adornment and definately no puffed sleeves? Poor Anne was broken hearted. She, with her love and appreciation of all things beautiful, just wanted pretty dresses like the other girls.

Oh I loved Anne! I can’t tell you how many times I read that book, and the sequels. I could relate! The mishaps, the temper, the dreamer, the misfit. Haven’t we all been Anne at one time or another? I re-read it as an adult and saw it from a completely different (more motherly?) perspective. That Anne would have been a handful! All I have to say is …my poor Mom!
